Environmental, Sustainable Building Solutions in NZ

  
At Dimensions, we take seriously the effects a building has on the environment and also how the environment has an affect on people and buildings.  We fully endorse and embrace the NZIA Environmental policy and endeavour to incorporate and use materials that are sustainable, locally produced and which do not have a detrimental effect on the environment.  This commitment to creating healthy spaces assists in minimising the ongoing costs to you in the operation of your new building and to reduce the demand your new building places on external services.

The leaky building syndrome has highlighted some of the negative health effects of housing but most are unaware of the positive health effects a well designed home can have.  We are accredited assessors under the BRANZ Green Home scheme.  This scheme aims to promote sustainable, healthy and safe homes by recognising the environmental impact buildings have on their occupants and their surroundings.

Some areas to consider are:
Making the most of the natural resources of the site.
Correct siting of the building, the rooms within and their flow to the outside.
Well designed hot water systems using the suns free energy and wet backs.
Maximising the use of natural light.
Healthier internal paints, flooring and other materials together with correct ventilation to dramatically improve air quality.
Passive Solar design providing a warm home in winter and cool home in summer that not only saves energy, but also reduces dampness and condensation.
Reducing waste from construction through to recycling of household waste and composting.  We welcome recycled products and are happy to incorporate any material that you have collected.
Reducing demand of water through water efficient methods.

Green Architecture design also reduces running costs and the cost of some extra devices is generally recouped within the first five years.

We work through a design check list to make sure every aspect of a healthy home is included and educate you as the owner to consider extra points to increase the health aspect of your home.  We continually measure ourselves against guidelines to give you peace of mind and provide a certificate upon completion for added resell value.
